Last night I was reading a book on disciplining toddlers (ie. 14months onwards) and I was surprised to learn that the examples of naughty behaviour quoted in the book are already present in Janelle who's 11 months old! Each day is a battle of getting her not to stand or climb out of her high chair, to not spit out her food, to sit in her carseat (which she absolutely refuses), to not scream, etc etc. It doesn't help that other older mothers tell me that it will only get worse as the kid grows older! That sure doesn't sound encouraging at all.
This morning I had to leave Janelle to play with her toys while I went for a quick shower. Just 5 minutes later I came out and found my bag ransacked, with Janelle pulling out every card and note from my wallet! Decided to snap a picture of her caught in the act...

A detective in the making.
ReplyDeleteWell... thanks for the warning! Will pray for you girls!
ReplyDeleteAh, Janelle... being a kid is hard work isn't it?
I got my bag & wallet ransacked on more than 1 occasion too! Good thing no notes were torn :) Hv learnt to zip up my bag when left on the table.
ReplyDeleteOn toddler behaviour - i think while it gets worse in terms of frequency of tantrums it does also improve as they learn to communicate their feelings / frustration through words & actions as they grow older. So it's not all bad.
Haha thanks ladies! I have discovered the "trick". Must find a new exciting toy/book to distract her and she will get into her carseat. Same goes for mealtimes - distracting her with something new will make her open her mouth and swallow mechanically. I suspect she doesn't even realise she's eating her food because she's too distracted!
ReplyDeleteHeh... guess how my mum used to feed me? In front of the TV. But she got frustrated when I didn't chew the food in my mouth. Haha... poor mummy.
ReplyDeleteHaha oh yes, TV's a good one too. Kids somehow just love the TV! But i don't watch TV so i'd rather my kid doesn't watch it too...heh!
